Anti-wrinkle injections

How does it work?

The skin’s natural ability to protect itself reduces as we get older, meaning that repeated muscle contractions and movement leave their mark.

Anti-wrinkle injections are an effective way to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Lines that appear when the face is in motion are called dynamic wrinkles. Repeated movement over time lead to lines that remain even if our face is not moving. These are called static wrinkles.

Anti-wrinkle injections are made from purified protein and work to prevent the formation of static wrinkles by stopping the signal between the nerve and muscle.

The resulting decreased movement in the muscle places less stress on the skin helping you maintain a refreshed appearance.  This treatment is most effective when used as a preventative measure.

Dosage

At Èlan Aesthetics we use anti-wrinkle injections to target the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows and crows feet. We use the leading brand of injectibles which has a wealth of data to support its safety and effectiveness. Injections are measured in units. The amount of units required depends on the severity of the wrinkle and desired outcome by the client, but a standard range is set out below as a guide:

* Forehead: 10-35 units (Product B) or 20-70 units (Product D)

* Frown: 12-25 units (Product B) or 24-50units (Product D)

* Crows Feet: 5-15 units per side (Product B) or 10-30 units (Product D)

* Masseter/jaw (popular for teeth grinding/jaw clenching/ tension headaches):

  Product B approx 50 units/side, Product D approx 100units/side

* Bunny lines: approx 2-4 units/side (Product B) or approx 4-8 units/side      (Product D)

* Downturned mouth: approx 2-5 units/side (Product B) or 4-10 units/side (  (Product D)

Aftercare

Factors which have been documented to cause shifting of the product to other areas of the face include:

- Lying down on side/face within 4 hours of treatment
- Performing strenuous exercise within one day of treatment
- Wearing tight fitting headwear such as swimming goggles within 5 days of treatment
- Vigorous skin treatments such as microdermabrasion within one week of treatment

Excessive Sweating Treatments

How does it work?

Botulinum Toxin has become a widely recognized treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating), and is TGA approved. To treat severe underarm sweating, the product works by blocking the secretion of the chemical that activates sweat glands. The more units injected, the longer the drying effects tend to last.

Dosage

Approx 100 units/side (Product B) or 200 units/side (Product D).

Aftercare

There are little to no aftercare considerations for underarm treatment.

Dermal Fillers

How does it work?

At birth we have plenty of collagen and elastin (think of chubby baby cheeks). As we age, we start to lose volume from our face which can make us look tired and sunken.

Unlike wrinkles which require muscle relaxants to soften them, facial volume and folds require a dermal filler to help re-volumise and hydrate the area.

Our dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid which is  a natural sugar already present in the human body so completely non-allergenic.

Dosage

By injecting approximately 1ml of  dermal filler into the cheek area, the restored volume helps to lift nasolabial folds, reduce the appearance of the tear trough and restore an overall youthful look to the face. An even smaller amount can be injected into the lips to restore lost volume, improve the definition of the lip border or reduce smokers' lines.

Aftercare

Most patients experience no problems after their treatment and are highly satisfied! Some minor post procedure complications include minor bruising which will go away in 4-5days and perhaps minor lumpiness under the skin as the product starts to settle in. This can be alleviated by self massage and will not be a long term problem.

Microneedling

How does it work?

NOW AVAILABLE IN SYDNEY, BONDI AND LITHGOW.

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) involves using fine needles to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of skin. Sound appealing? Not so much. But this minimally invasive treatment is virtually painless, has minimal downtime and is incredibly effective. The micro-injuries it creates stimulates the body’s natural wound healing processes, resulting in cell turnover and increased collagen and elastin production, therefore reversing as well as preventing signs of ageing.

Aftercare

DON’T USE SKIN PRODUCTS CONTAINING ‘ACTIVE INGREDIENTS’
The microneedling procedure will leave your skin in a highly sensitive state, so it is recommended that you avoid all skin care products that contain any kind of ‘active ingredients’ such as retinol, alpha hydroxyl acids and Vitamin C.

You can incorporate these products back into your regime 3-5 days after your treatment, or as recommended by your experienced therapist.

AVOID USING MAKEUP AFTER THE TREATMENT
Don’t apply any kind of makeup for at least 24 hours to 48 hours after the procedure as it’s important to allow your skin barrier to heal over.

Using make up brushes can irritate the open skin, and if there’s any bacteria on the brushes you run the risk of developing a skin infection.

AVOID ACTIVITIES OR SITUATIONS THAT MAKE YOU SWEAT
A microneedling procedure will cause heat in the skin as a natural stage of healing. If you sweat or partake in any activities that make you hot, it will create further unwanted heat in the skin. It may also allow bacteria to penetrate the skin. This can lead to infection, extended redness or an adverse skin reaction.

DON’T TAKE ANY ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICATIONS
Prior to and immediately after microneedling procedures you should avoid the use of anti-inflammatory medications, such as Ibuprofen, as they will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is needed for optimum skin rejuvenation.

USE A GENTLE CLEANSER
In place of active products a very mild cleanser and barrier cream is recommended to keep your skin clean and soothe any resultant dry skin and flakiness. We can advise on the best kinds of cleansers, moisturisers and healing products to use to avoid irritation.

DON’T FORGET TO DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
Keeping well hydrated will assist in faster healing and skin rejuvenation.

ONCE THE SKIN HAS HEALED, DON’T FORGET BROAD SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN
While it’s important to give the sunscreen a miss for the first few days following the procedure, we do advise that you use a broad-spectrum sunscreen once your skin has healed, to prevent unwanted pigmentation and sun damage.
